STEPS are 2019 Albert Eden Local Heroes

May 29th, 2019

STEPS was delighted to receive an award from the Albert Eden Local Board this month recognising our environmental and community work on Waitītiko Meola Creek. Further, Committee member Nick Goldwater’s leading role in guiding the restoration of the STEPS wetland in the Roy Clements Treeway was recognised by a well deserved individual award.  Sel Arbuckle was named a “Super Hero” for his work on lava rock forests across the Auckland isthmus, and in a range of different communities. Congratulations to Nick and Sel.

Below is the post from Roy Clements who in addition to guiding and supporting us, and participating in STEPS” events, also attended the Local Heroes Ceremony (and took photos!).

May Event – Planting our Wetland

May 2nd, 2019

Join STEPS improving part of the Roy Clements Treeway!

Last year, we planted the ephemeral wetland at the Treeway’s southern end. In 2019 we will fill it out and do some releasing.

Come along, with family and friends, for a couple of hours of planting and help improve the biodiversity of the area with the support of our Local Board.

  • Saturday 18th May 2019 at 10.00am
  • @ Kerr Taylor Park (Fergusson Reserve) end of Roy Clements Treeway (southern end)

Please bring a sunhat and sunblock, a raincoat, water bottle and gardening gloves.  Bring a spade if you have one – we have some spares.

If the weather looks poor, check www.meolacreek.org.nz after 8am.
